In the first podcast that I upload: Episode 1: social media with politics is talk about “How Social Media Affects Politics in beneficial and problematic ways.” After a lot of searching, I’ve learned that social media has a huge impact on contemporary politics, there’s good and there’s bad, that’s always the way.
When I talk about the beneficial of social media, I mentioned two parts: for masses; for leaders. First, for masses, social media can make us get news anytime of the day and get connect with Political leaders in direct. For leaders, they can use social media to advertise themselves and more accountable and accessible to voters.
For the negative effects, I talked about there have many rumors and Fake News on the social media, also I give an example of “Cambridge Analytica”.
For my podcast, i divided 5 parts for my making process:
#1 Research:
Before I started making my podcasts, I did a lot of research, that’s because I don’t want to talk about something wrong or misleading content. I have read many journal articles, newspaper articles, websites and so on. To find out how many people are using social media now, I search a data from statista.com, which shows the number of global social network users 2010-2021. I also quoted a concept from Balamurugan, published in (2018) “we conclude that social media has greater impact on politics, and it has possibility of changing the long-term young generation behavior towards politics”.
#2 Planning:
After researching the basic information, I begin to design my podcast. Frist of all, I create dot point plan which includes the basic content that I want to talk. The dot point plan will keep my mind clear (I always forget what I’m going to say or what comes to my mind😓). Then I use the dot point to develop a script for myself, I found write a script is really important, In my experience, this is much more consistent than only looking at key points.
#3 Recording:
I use my phone to record my sound that’s because the sound quality of the phone is much better than I expected！🥰 In order to avoid some emergencies and sudden noise, I decided to record each paragraph then use the editing program to connect them after record all the podcast. Although it only has 5 minutes and I already practice a lot before the formal record, it still takes me many times to do it. 😢
#4 Editing:
For me, editing is not a difficult thing or is not so difficult than I thought. I used Audacity to edit my podcast, the most difficult thing for editing is connect my voice. As I said before, I record a lot of paragraph and try to connect them when I edit my podcast. However, that’s really took me a few hours. Moreover, I also chose a music from Ross Bugden for my musical intro and outro which I have found in Soundcloud.
#5 Publishing:
Finally, I finished all the work of making my podcast, it’s time to upload it! 😄I also use a picture from Jason Howie as my background to express the topic better.
So, that’s all about my Episode 1, through this experience, i already get some basic skills of making podcast, also i found making podcast is a very interesting things which can make me try to think about something and talk to others, please give me some comments and let me know what you think! 💗
