The invisible spies are eyeing you!

One day I was stand at the cashier of Coles and looked up at the security cameras, So I tried to count how many cameras there were on the way home, and that’s when I realized there was so much surveillance in our lives.

Content!

At the beginning of this video, I start with a quote from by David von Drehle to give my audience a general direction for this video and let them know what’s going to be discussed.

The goal of this video is briefly introducing surveillance in our daily life, the use of this technology and the potential danger of it. I’m also trying to get my viewers to pay attention to the security of smart devices in their homes (that’s why i called them invisible spies) , and thinking about the right of the government of surveillance and whether surveillance itself makes us safer.

Strategies!

Script By Nicole

Since this video is not about me and it needs some theories and research to support it, I choose to write a script in advance and design the content of each part, and this made it easier for me to record videos and memorize lines.

In order to make this video more interesting and not just like a boring “explanation” video, I plan to use many videos and pictures in this video. So, I’ve collected a lot of videos about surveillance and other scenes that I wanted. However, search you imagine Creative Commons videos on YouTube is not an easy thing.

For the lighting, this time I tried to use natural light which I think is better than my first video. The natural light makes my videos look more realistic and comfortable, however, I had to spend more time shooting because the natural light always changes with the weather and cloud.

With the experience of the first video, I remembered to use the rule of thirds this time, I opened the grid on my camera and tried to sit at the left, When I’m inserting videos and pictures, I really see the benefits, It splits my screen nicely into two parts and looks really comfortable and friendly.

Moreover, I found a background music from Free Music Archive to make sure it has a CreativeCommons license, I spent some time on this because I wanted to find a music that would make my videos sound more dynamic and modern.

Lessons and Challenges!

The biggest challenge with this video was that it required a lot of images and videos, which I had to insert into the right places, although editing this video was not a very difficult task, I was still annoyed by constantly adjusting the position of the video and pictures. What’s more, because I chose to shoot with my phone this time, this resulted in my video being of a different size, with a black border on the top and bottom of the screen.💔💔

Beyond that, I still find it difficult to plan a proper time and I had to cut out some clips due to my lack of time management. When I mentioned the importance of surveillance in catching criminals, I wanted to mention its importance in the 2013 Boston Bombings, but I had to delete it because I didn’t have enough time, that’s made me lost some cases in my video.

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this video and proud of myself, well definitely, it could be better. I think I delivered the message that I want and hope I can start my video earlier next time…
